The Smithsonian facility, located at 3400 Pennsy Drive, houses collections, libraries with rare book conservation facilities, the central Smithsonian Institution mail facility, a security training facility, shuttle bus transportation hub and exhibit design and fabrication shops.
The project incorporated sophisticated climate controls, advanced fire detection and suppression systems, 8,000 square feet of new mezzanine space, extensive shop facilities, common infrastructure for users, security systems, access control and an interior loading dock.
